A Message From The Executive Director
Today’s Change is Tomorrow’s Hope. These are words that inspire me, and I want to share them with each person who comes across my path.
It is an honor to serve as the executive director of the Wayne County Jail Outreach Ministry. This new assignment follows my longstanding history and background in community involvement, advocacy, service and leadership. I am dedicated to connecting spiritual and natural needs with the incarcerated, ostracized, and marginalized communities.
For many years I was a firefighter with the City of Detroit, working in the training division as a lieutenant, captain and chief. Ultimately, I became the Detroit Fire Department’s 2nd deputy fire commissioner, responsible for the training and fire marshal divisions. The energy, passion, and enthusiasm I have for serving the community led me to become a prison outreach advocate, spiritual leader and community activist. I believe that faith instills strength and a sense of purpose.
What can we accomplish together with the Wayne County Jail Outreach Ministry?
This organization works with individuals residing in, or released from, the Wayne County Jail. We are an interfaith organization that serves a diverse and culturally rich population. We invite all faiths to participate as we support the Wayne County Jail chaplain staff by ministering to jail residents as well as those newly released.
When someone stumbles, they often fall hard and it’s tough to get back up. That’s why we are here. To lead by welcoming, teaching, praying, and demonstrating faith. We are here for all those affected by crime, including the offender who must re-enter society and often construct a new path of stability and success. We can assist with connecting them to resources that include job training, food and clothing assistance, medical/dental clinics and transportation. Our success is measured by men and women who find their sense of purpose and carry forward to lead capable, productive lives. If that is accomplished, their family, friends, employers, neighbors, and others benefit.
We can create a stronger Detroit and surrounding community. The Wayne County Jail Outreach Ministry invites you to support our efforts.
You can experience immeasurable joy sharing your faith, along with time, treasure and talents. I encourage you to contact the Wayne County Jail Outreach Ministry and learn more about volunteer opportunities. The changes you make today can mean hope for someone else tomorrow.
Honored to serve,
Orlando R. Gregory, MPA WCJOM Executive Director
